Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander commercial fishing development

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander commercial fishing development policy (PDF, 569KB) aims to support economic development opportunities for Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities by providing flexible pathways to participate in commercial fishing businesses.

Broodstock collection

The broodstock and culture stock collection policy (PDF, 521KB) outlines the management arrangements for the collection of broodstock and culture stock from wild fisheries used for aquaculture in Queensland.

Developmental fishing

The developmental fishing policy (PDF, 578KB) outlines a flexible process to:

  • apply for, assess and permit preliminary, exploratory and developmental commercial fishing activities
  • transition between developmental phases
  • transition from developmental fishing to a formally regulated commercial fishing activity.

Fish stocking

The fish stocking in Queensland policy (PDF, 3MB) aims to effectively manage fish stocking in Queensland to improve the success of fish stocking and minimise the impacts on the environment. This policy:

  • describes the types of fish stocking and objectives
  • outlines the process for managing (including adaptive management and ongoing improvements) and evaluating fish stocking in Queensland
  • provides guidance on the requirements for fish stocking in Queensland waters.

Fishing history

The fishing history policy applies to any decision, consideration or other dealing with authorities where the fishing history of an authority is a relevant factor.

Fisheries resource reallocation

The fisheries resource reallocation policy (PDF, 268KB) sets out the criteria that must be met for any proposal to reallocate access to fisheries resources from one sector to another.

Any entity proposing reallocation of fisheries resources must:

  • demonstrate the benefits to the community
  • supply sufficient information to demonstrate their case
  • outline how compensation might be provided.

The limited entry policy guides the chief executive and delegates in making decisions about access to fisheries to which this policy applies.
