Closed seasons in fresh waters
Barramundi
You can’t target barramundi outside of the dams listed for catch and release during these closed seasons, as the stress of capture may prevent fish from spawning.
Queensland fresh waters (except Gulf of Carpentaria)
- When: 1 November to 31 January each year.
- Where: All Queensland fresh waters (except Gulf of Carpentaria).
Does not apply in:
- Aplins Weir (includes Black Weir and Gleeson Weir)
- Lake Awoonga
- Ben Anderson Barrage (includes Paradise Dam, Claude Wharton Weir and Jones Weir)
- Burdekin Falls
- Callide, Eungella, Fairbairn, Fred Haigh (Lake Monduran), Kinchant and Koombooloomba dams
- Lake Gregory (Isis Balancing Storage)
- Copperlode Falls (Lake Morris)
- Lenthalls, Peter Faust, Teemburra, Tinaroo and Wuruma dams
- in waterways upstream of these impoundments.
Gulf of Carpentaria
- When: 7 October to 31 January each year.
- Where: All Gulf of Carpentaria fresh waters.
Does not apply in:
- East Leichhardt Dam
- Lake Belmore
- Lake Corella
- Fred Tritton Lake
- Lake Julius
- Lake Moondarra
- waterways upstream of these impoundments.
Murray cod
- When: 1 August to 31 October each year.
- Where: All Queensland fresh waters in the Murray-Darling Drainage Division.
Does not apply in:
- Beardmore dam
- Connolly dam
- Cooby dam
- Coolmunda dam
- Glenlyon dam
- Leslie dam
- Storm King dams.
